The underlying goal of the Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance is to foster an “Ethic of Environmental Stewardship” within businesses, industries, governments and the citizens of North Carolina. This promotes greener business and industry, a better environment and more efficient use of natural resources. This goal is accomplished by providing a wide range of non-regulatory technical assistance on the elimination, reduction reuse and recycling of wastes and the conservation of water and energy.

1. Identify and promote best management practices through an integrated multimedia approach.
2. Develop the state recycling economy by promoting the efficient and sustainable collection, processing and end use of recycled materials.
3. Promote the principles of Environmental Management Systems.
4. Facilitate the integration of pollution prevention into DENR regulatory, policy and operational activities.

1. Ensure the accountability of all DPPEA employees.
2. Increase awareness of DPPEA’s services to internal and external clients.
3. Identify and implement methods to improve the efficiency of DPPEA’s operations.
4. Seek to understand client needs and measure effectiveness in meeting those needs.
