Jack of the Wood is a cozy, Celtic-style pub located in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. It is home to Green Man Ales, which are brewed at the pub’s brewing facility located just five blocks away.
Recycling containers are shared between Jack of the Wood and Laughing Seed Cafe. Materials collected include corrugated cardboard, office paper and glass bottles. Bottles and cans are collected in a small can behind the bar. When the can is full, employees take the materials to an alley behind the establishment where materials are separated by type and glass is separated by color. |
Jack of the Wood began recycling when it began business in 1997. Owners Joan and Joe Eckert decided to meld the pub’s program with the one operated by Laughing Seed Café. In keeping with their earth-friendly atmosphere, the Eckerts began recycling because they couldn’t imagine not doing it. |
