The town of Oak Island offers an integrated oil and oil filter recycling service, with one public site and additional collections at the town garage. Oak Island has provided its citizens filter recycling opportunities since November 2000 and uses Noble Oil Service of Sanford as its market vendor. Noble charges $77 per picked-up 55-gallon drum.

The town collects between two and three drums per year, along with about 400-500 gallons of oil every six to eight weeks. The town uses a 250-gallon tank for oil at each site, with secondary containment for the oil tank and filters. The public site is housed in a small shed and it includes a filter crusher employed by the Oak Island staff.
