Solid Waste Collection Efficiency
Fully automated waste collection programs use vehicles with a hydraulically controlled arm to pick up and
dump the collection containers. Residential waste disposal has typically required two to three person crews for
one collection route to both operate the vehicle and handle the waste containers. The fully automated system
requires only one staff member per route to operate the vehicle and collect waste. Fully automated operation
eliminates the hands-on contact with garbage and provides a safer working environment for employees, thus
reducing liability. The system also significantly decreases exposure to diseases and work-related accidents and
injuries. In addition, the fully automated system better utilizes fewer staff members and thus reduces labor costs.
