Environmentally Preferable Procurement (EPP) and Buy Recycled - Policies
Environmentally preferable procurement (EPP) involves purchasing products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose. Examples of EPP include buying recycled content paper, purchasing energy efficient computers and electronic products, and using re-refined motor oil or
biodiesels in
vehicles. EPP helps to “close the loop” by supporting recycling markets and conserving natural resources. Some local governments from around the
state have already begun making efforts to purchase and use environmentally preferable products, develop
buy recycled policies, and educate citizens in their communities about “closing the loop.”
