Technical Assistance Provider
This site is designed to assist a technical assistance provider conduct a training session on the simplified pork EMS. This serves as a virtual training guide. The presentations provided were used at the March 25, 2009 Technical Assistance Provider Pork EMS meeting. Feel free to adapt them to meet the needs of your audience. In addition, a sample agenda and sign-in sheet for the day are included. All materials will need to be personalized for your workshop and participants needs.This guide is geared toward training producers or other TA providers. This is a simplified step-by-step approach to conducting the training event.
Several weeks before training:
- Once participants have been determined, decide on the date and location to accommodate participants.
- Prepare agenda. It’s recommended to keep the workshop to a half day to assure participants time is taken into account.
- Organize presentations. If using presentations provided, personalize the slides for your workshop.
- Secure necessary equipment such as laptop and projector.
- Determine if refreshments will be served.
A week before training:
- Save toolkit on CDs for participants and prepare other handouts if necessary. However, it is recommended to use the online toolkit and resources. You would need internet capabilities or have all information saved on the trainer’s laptop.
- Purchase refreshments if necessary.
- Send an e-mail reminder to participants with agenda.
- Load final presentations on laptop.
- Prepare a sign-in sheet and signage directing participants to training location.
- Prepare the toolkit for viewing at the workshop. It is recommended to have one printed toolkit available.
The day of training:
- Set up room for training. It’s best to configure the room to encourage an open conversation between trainer and participants. A semi-circle or U shape works well.
- Have the sign-in sheet ready and extra pens available. Set up refreshments.
- Put signage up to direct participants to the training room.
- Have one printed toolkit available for the trainer to review with participants. (If Web access if available, the trainer may want to visit the Pork EMS Web site.)
