| WHAT: | Join 16 state agencies and the consolidated state universities in a four-hour festival showcasing environmental sustainability in state government. The
N.C. Green 2001 Expo will feature presentations by Cabinet, Council of State, legislative leaders and the military, including: Rep. Joe
Tolson, District 71; Sen. Howard Lee, District 16; Superintendent Mike Ward, Department of Public Instruction; Commissioner Meg Scott Phipps, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; Secretary William G. Ross Jr., Department of Environment and Natural Resources; Secretary Gwynn Swinson, Department of Administration; and Col. Addison D. “Tad” Davis IV, Garrison Commander at Fort Bragg. More than 60 hands-on exhibits (from state agencies, universities and emerging technology providers) of environmental stewardship, efficiency and cost-saving projects will be highlighted during this event. These displays will cover a wide range of topics including energy and water efficiency, environmentally preferable purchasing, "green" buildings, composting, recycling, pollution prevention and sustainable land management. A “ride-and-drive” area for individual demonstrations of Motor Fleet’s alternative fuel vehicles (AFV) will be available. More than 30 Wake County elementary school children will be present with environmental exhibits and also to act as the event’s recycling and compost “monitors.” Midday refreshments will be accompanied by a special concert featuring the Minutemen of N.C. Army National Guard. |

| COMMENTS: |
N.C. Project Green, an interagency association chartered in 1998 to encourage environmental sustainability in government, sponsors N.C. Green 2001. The event is open to the public. In the spirit of environmental sustainability, visitors are asked to use the
park-and-ride facility at the former Polk Youth Center property on Blue Ridge Road, just off Wade Avenue, which will operate continuously from 9 a.m. –
3 p.m. on the day of the event. |
