4.6 Management Review

To maintain continual improvement and effectiveness of the EMS, farm management should review and evaluate the EMS periodically. Management review subjects include:

  • results from audits;

  • documentation of the objectives and targets met; and

  • any concerns about the future.

The management should also consider making changes to the EMS, as this will help the system's continued effectiveness and improvement.  Management review may be conducted in conjunction with the annual EMS audit. The results of these reviews are to be recorded and dated.

  • Write a procedure that identifies the personnel responsible for:

    • reporting on the EMS to the Management Review Board or manager.

    • recording decisions made and making changes to appropriate documentation.

The responsible party within this procedure is often the management representative or EMS coordinator.

See the link below for an example of a management review procedure.

(This procedure and forms can be downloaded and customized by replacing the red highlighted areas with the specifics for your farm. You can incorporate your procedure for this element within your EMS manual or maintain it as a separate document. A small farm may decide to incorporate language within the manual that addresses this element as opposed to having separate documents.)
