4.4.1 Structure and Responsibility
The purpose of this element is to define and document roles and responsibilities for your farm. These roles and responsibilities must be clearly communicated to appropriate personnel.
- Identify personnel responsible for activities that could have an environmental impact. Document their role in the EMS, their title (try to use titles instead of names so the EMS will not have to be updated if there is a personnel change), and their responsibilities. The
Roles and Responsibilities Procedure includes a sample procedure and chart with examples.
(This procedure and form can be downloaded and customized by replacing the red highlighted areas with the specifics for your farm. You can incorporate your procedure for this element within your EMS manual or maintain it as a separate document. A small farm may decide to incorporate language within the manual that addresses this element as opposed to having separate documents.)
- Be sure to identify the personnel responsible for serving as the management review board and management representative.
- Communicate these roles and responsibilities to all appropriate personnel.
