Environmental Sustainability Report
Environmental
Master Plan
As part of the campus master plan,
Ayers Saint Gross, retained a consultant team to prepare an Environmental Master Plan (EMP). The consulting team was a collaboration of two firms,
Andropogon Associates and Cahill
Associates, both from the Philadelphia area. Andropogon is a landscape architecture firm known for ecological master planning and sustainable design, including the restoration and management of natural habitats. Cahill Associates is well known in the field of water resources engineering as a leader in innovative stormwater management, including the use and application of groundwater recharge systems.
Despite the addition of 5.9 million square feet of new construction on the Chapel Hill campus over the next 10 years, green space and pervious surface area will be protected and enhanced. Techniques planned to reduce stormwater runoff include the use of green roofs, daylit streams, and pervious parking surfaces. The
university has committed to no net increase in stormwater runoff from the campus.
