University of North Carolina - Charlotte
Environmental Sustainability Report
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is committed to good stewardship of the
physical environment. This plan documents this university's commitment to
environmental sustainability practices and policies. It is intended to demonstrate our
commitment to and contribution toward the state of North Carolina's Environmental
Sustainability Plan for 2001. UNC-Charlotte approaches environmental sustainability
practices in three major categories:
1. Sustainable Operations and Practices
-
Energy Management and Water Conservation
-
Pollution Prevention/Environmental Compliance
-
Preservation/Conservation
-
Alternative Fuel and Low Emission Vehicles
-
Construction Practices (Green Buildings)
2. Waste Reduction and Recycling
3. Purchase and Use of Environmentally Preferable Materials
These sections describe what we are doing to sustain the environment now and our
plans to increase and improve these measures in the future. In describing our future
goals, we have attempted to plan three to five years in the future. Our plan will be
adjusted annually to reflect changes in the university, technology and the physical
environment.
UNC-Charlotte recently formed an Environmental Sustainability Task
Force to guide this effort. During the next year, we will work to broaden the
knowledge and expertise of this task force and to include more staff and faculty
members. Task force members are listed below with their phone numbers and e-mail
addresses.
