| SITUATION: |
KC Corp is a start-up company that uses an electrostatic process to
powder-coat fasteners, such as screws. As part of its production process,
the company needed to maintain a consistent ground on the metal screws
for reliable performance of the powder-coating process prior to baking
on the coating. The company also needed ways to orient the screws properly
before coating and to improve temperature control of the baking oven. Looking
for assistance with these needs, KC Corp contacted the Oak Ridge Centers
for Manufacturing Technology through the Manufacturing Technology Information
Service. |
| PROJECT: |
Engineers from ORCMT went to the company's plant in Greenville and
after looking at the KC Corp operation suggested ways the company could
reduce production variation and increase production. |
| RESULTS: |
The suggestions and recommendations have substantially increased
KC Corp's production and given the company the potential to quadruple its
size in the near future.
Edwin Casey, founder of KC Corp, said his company wants to produce the
best product at the lowest price. "The service ORCMT provided dovetailed
perfectly with the needs of a start-up operation. The recommendations were
in line with our capabilities, and our customers are delighted,"
Casey said. |
