Vanpooling
A vanpool is a group of 7 to 15 who ride in a van together to and from
work. One member of the group volunteers to drive, and the others share in
the cost of operating the vanpool. The whole group enjoys the economy of
sharing expenses and the convenience of sharing a ride.
Vanpooling Facts
- The average vanpool in Southern California saves $1,500 per year
with over 2,000 vanpools in existence.
- A 7-person vanpool keeps about 10 pounds of hydrocarbons, carbon
dioxide, and nitrogen oxides from going into the air each day.
- See the Carpool Tips for ideas on how to make riding together work
better.
- Vanpooling works best when you:
- Drive more than 15 miles each way,
- Work regular hours,
- Like riding with others.
- Vanpooling gives you the option to join as a passenger and cut your
commuting costs substantially, or to be the driver of a new vanpool and
commute for free. Drivers get to use the van during evenings and
weekends.
